About us
ASILI OVERVIEW
Asili Waste Management is a product of the Cedara e-Waste Material Recovery Facility project piloted by the Department of Agriculture and Environmental Affairs
(DAEA) in 2009. Asili is an e-waste recycling company that has achieved the elusive zero waste operation through recycling of obsolete electrical and electronic
waste that services all market sectors that use electrical and electronic equipment.
This operation curbs the volumes of e-waste going to landfill sites and bridges the digital divide in the South African schooling system through refurbishing of
unwanted computers for public schools. This duty is performed efficiently and effectively to ensure customer satisfaction.
ASILI MANAGEMENT
Asili Waste Management is jointly owned and managed by its founders and directors, Babalwa Yose and Linda Mntungwa.
ASILI MANAGEMENT SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Babalwa Yose and Linda Mntungwa are in possession of qualifications in the fields of Electrical and Chemical Engineering respectively. The electrical and chemical
educational backgrounds of the directors complement each other to give the business a well-rounded understanding of electrical components testing methods and
impact on the natural environment.
They have been part of e-waste recycling for seven years now since the launch of the e-waste recycling pilot project (Cedara E-waste Recovery Material Facility)
in Cedara in 2009 under the Department of Agriculture and Environmental Affairs (DAEA). While under DAEA they have recycled e-waste for four KZN Departments, the
Department of Agiculture and Environmental Affairs, the Departement of Human Settlement, the Department of Transport and the KZN Wildlfe. This extensive ewaste
recycling experience has allowed these directors to face and resolved many challenges resulting in minimum risks associated with this service. The involvement with
DAEA since 2009 has also assisted the company to fully understand environmental issues relating to waste disposal, government goals and policies with respect to
service delivery and financial management.
These directors have written the first ever e-waste recycling manual in South Africa and have established very good working relationships with other role players
in the e-waste recycling sector. They have also produced and presented a scientific paper for Wastecon 2012 on e-waste recycling as a viable business. These
together with their experience recycling under the e-waste pilot project in Cedara has provided an invaluable practical experience in e-waste recycling, and indicates also
their ability to give training and in-depth advice should a need arise.
